The Book Nook

Whether you read a novel on a computer, a kindle, a nook, or (the time-honored way) in a book, you have the opportunity to transport yourself to other places and times through the settings and characters of a novel.

What book are you independently reading or have recently read? What are your thoughts about this book? To whom would you recommend this book?  (Don't forget to include your first name to earn points.)

Homework This Weekend

Don't forget to complete the assignment that you did not finish yesterday and turn it in on Monday. The questions from your reading the first part of A Christmas Carol were to be completed in class. Hopefully next time, you will use your time more wisely. Have a great weekend!

Pre-AP Class Comment Requested

Comment on the progression of the Dust Bowl unit (i.e. characterization of Billie Jo, reading Out of the Dust, seeing film footage of the dust storms, hearing survivor testimonies). How did seeing actual film footage of the dust storms and hearing the interviews of the survivors effect your understanding of the Dust Bowl unit?

2nd Hour Assignment

Just a reminder about the assignment: You are to use the characterization web that you created in class on Tuesday, 11/16 to write a bibliographical essay of Billie Jo Kelby. Remember to use a comma to connect a dependent clause to an independent clause.
Example: When Billie Jo was 13 years old, she unintentionally threw a burning pail of kerosene on her mother.
This essay must be turned in to the 2nd hour drawer by Tuesday, November 23. The final draft must be hand written in blue/black ink or typed and printed from a computer. Make sure you remind your fellow classmates next week to turn in their papers before Thanksgiving break!

Guest Speaker - Billie Jo Kelby

I want to thank Billie Jo Kelby for coming to speak in the English classes on Monday. She enjoyed sharing a few stories from her childhood. What did you think about her visit? What was the most interesting thing she shared with the class? What was the purpose of her visit?

Welcome!

I am excited to introduce this blog as a means to communicate with the parents and students of my classes! By incorporating this style of communication, you will be able to find information about important due dates, assignments, projects, and assessments at your convenience. Also, there are helpful links to study aids and the literature textbook online.
