Pre-AP Class Comment Requested

Comment on the progression of the Dust Bowl unit (i.e. characterization of Billie Jo, reading Out of the Dust, seeing film footage of the dust storms, hearing survivor testimonies). How did seeing actual film footage of the dust storms and hearing the interviews of the survivors effect your understanding of the Dust Bowl unit?

  1. It made me think how the people had to live through the dust storms and everything else. It made me think that back then was almost impossible to live during the 1930's. It must have been unbearable to all of the people who lived then. It is also a great part of Oklahoma's history. To have lived in the 1930's was a terrible time.

  3. Living during the dust bowl seemed like a terrible time period to live in. The dust came hard and fast acually too fast for the people to notice. This part of history was very sad and terrible. It must have drove the dust bowlers crazy knowing they could not stop the dust and that the only thing they could do was hope and pray that the dust would stop. All in all it seem very hard and depressing. Jordan R.

  5. Seeing the testimonies helped you get a visual idea of the Dust Bowl. You were able to see what people did because of all the dust. Now, you can actually see how Billie Jo felt and why she felt how she felt during THe Dust Bowl in the 1930s.

Seeing the real footage makes me realize how dangerous and deadly and horrible the Dust Bowl was to the people who lived there. Nicole Leon basically said the rest, now I am a lot more sorry for them, but they could have sold the rabbits as pets and get some money in different states.

  8. It gave me a whole new outlook on life and how hard life used to be...and not to take anvantage of land and to use what God gave me and to be careful when something bad happens...It helped me to understand how hard life used to be and how easy we have it compared to but then. It gives me a whole new respect for the land and how we treat it.
