Whether you read a novel on a computer, a kindle, a nook, or (the time-honored way) in a book, you have the opportunity to transport yourself to other places and times through the settings and characters of a novel.
What book are you independently reading or have recently read? What are your thoughts about this book? To whom would you recommend this book? (Don't forget to include your first name to earn points.)
I just finished reading The Hunger Games trilogy. I thought it was intriguing, yet disturbing. I can't imagine being faced with the violence that Katniss (the main character) encounters. The first book in the series was my favorite. If you like futuristic/apocalyptic stories written in 1st person, you will like this series. The Hunger Games is nominated for the Sequoyah award this year.
ReplyDeleteI just recently re-read "The Five people you meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom. It is a wonderful story that transports the reader back in time showing him/her what a difference you make in everyone's life around you. Whether it is intentional or unintentional we have the ability to connect and influence the life of others. I truly enjoyed this book and other novels of Mitch Albom's as well. If you ever want to try it I suggest once you read it don't stop there. He has other novels such as "Tuesdays with Morrie" and "For one more Day".

I love the Harry Potter books, and have read all of them at least twice, some of them more than that. Some of my favorite books when I was younger:
ReplyDeleteThe Indian In The Cupboard by Lynn Reid Banks
Hatchet by Gary Paulson
Holes by Louis Sachar
The Giver by Lois Lowry
anything written by Roald Dahl
I recently finished reading The Host by Stephanie Meyer. It was pretty good, I think the girls would like it more than the boys. The Hunger Games series was great, especially the first book. If I think of some more I'll add them to the list.

ReplyDeleteDigital Fortress and Deception Point (both by Dan Brown) were really great books. I love Dan's writing style and I think it's amazing that he does all this research just to put out one book. You definitely learn a few things things from his books. Like in Digital Fortress I learned a lot about encryption algorithms. That book actually made me more interested in that subject.
